VoIP equipment

December 3, 2007

Q:
I’m planning to buy activefax software for my company. Important issue is that it needs to work over a sip account (voip). If I understood well this could be setup directly (softip) or by using an analog modem and Linksys ata. Could you please inform me in detail about the possibilies, what I need exactly and how I should setup?

A:
That’s correct, if you like to directly connect through SIP, you need to install SoftIP from Eicon/Dialogic. This software emulates an ISDN board through CAPI interface. As an alternative it would also work to use a normal analog modem that is connected through some kind of analog telephone adapter (i.e. from Linksys). I personally would recommend using the second method, since using the ATA in combination with an analog fax modem would be easier to install and maintain and it would also be the cheaper solution.

VoIP problems

December 1, 2007

Q:
I just went to Voice Override IP Telephone Service and I am now having problems with the fax program. Any suggestions?

A:
This might be caused by a bandwidth problem of the IP connection (fax transmissions require fast repsonse times). It would be interesting to see the error code you get in the menu Extras / Transmission Protocol in that case.
