Printing / Terminal Server

May 21, 2009

Q:
When we try to print a document from another terminal calling upon the activefax printer the document does not get transmitted, rather it appears as a hung job in the activefax printer, and we have to reboot the server to clear the job.

A:
You need to take care to enable the option for terminal server extensions on the fax client in the menu File / Automatic Startup / Terminal Server in that case. Take care to once log off from Windows when you change that option. When this option is not set, you normally get the fax dialog window for the print job directly on the console screen of the terminal server which then blocks the spooler as long as the window is open.

Q:
Does the activefax server and client have to be installed on each PC that needs to activefax?

A:
On normal workstations, you just need to install the fax client. The fax server is only installed on a single PC in the network.

IFS

May 21, 2009

Q:
We are currently in the configuration stages of setting up Active Fax with our new ERP system (IFS). We were wondering if it would be possible to queue up all communications to a set time rather than having all faxes/e-mails go out as they come in? Sort of a “batching” of communications until a desired time or number of transmissions threshold has been met.

A:
It would only be possible to set a preferred transmission time for outgoing faxes or emails in that case. Automatically queuing faxes until a number of faxes is in the queue is not possible. Is there a special reason why you need such a function?

fax locked

May 21, 2009

Q:
Whenever I try to send a fax it’s being locked as shown on the jpg I attached. Can you please try and tell how to fix it?

A:
I recommend to check the permission settings for the user xy in the menu Extras / User Administrator / Modify. You need to take care that the permission “Automatic sending clearance” is granted there.

defining a specific com

May 21, 2009

Q:
I have a couple of modems connected to my Active Fax Server. I defined that COM no.4 will be used by a user named xyal24. However, when I go to a client that uses the xy24 user, it sends the fax with “the next available modem, meaning com 3, and then I get the “undelivered” message (wrong com number). I have to manually change it every time the user sends a fax to COM no.4 (as shown on the jpeg I attached). How can I make it use com 4 automatically?

A:
If you are using ActiveFax version 4.14 or newer, the easiest way to set the default modem to COM4 would be adding the data field @F312 4@ to the Comment field of the ActiveFax printer in the Windows Control Panel on the users PC. That way, the COM port automatically defaults to COM4 for all new print jobs on the ActiveFax printer. As an alternative it would also be possible to use the UserSetController parameter in the options.cfg file on the fax server to set a default modem for a user.

TR114

May 14, 2009

Q:
Is it possibleto get a LINUX driver for the TR114?

A:
Since the fax server cannot be installed on a Linux system (only on Windows based systems), there is no Linux driver available for the Brooktrout TR114 board.

Route faxes to different printers

May 14, 2009

Q:
If we have more than one modem in a single Server,  Is it possible to route faxes coming in from each modem/faxline – to be outputted to *different* printers, so that we do not confuse our faxing systems?

A:
Yes, this would be no problem. You just need to assign a different default user for each modem in the menu Communication / Modem / Modify and can then configure individual printer settings for each of these users with the menu Extras / User Administrator / Modify / Printing.

Default Modem

May 14, 2009

Q:
I install 4 modems on the Active Fax server. I configure each modem for: “Default user for incoming faxes”.
I need to set a default modem for outgoing fax to each user . For example: “user1” send outgoing fax by default from COM04….. “user2” send outgoing fax by default from COM05. Can I set permission to each modem: who can access \ use specific modem?

A:
This would be possible when you set the parameter UserSetController in the options.cfg file on the fax server. You can find more information about that parameter and the options.cfg file in the online help of the fax server.
