Fax Cover Sheet

December 28, 2007

Q:
CAN I EXPORT MY FAX COVER SHEET INTO THE ACTIVEFAX COVER PAGE DESIGNER AND HAVE THAT AS MY STANDARD COVER PAGE?

A:
If you need to import an existing cover page (i.e. in Winword format), this would be possible with a small trick when you print the document to the ActiveFax printer and export the document with the fax client. For example to use a Word document as a cover page, follow these steps:

1) Print the Word document to the ActiveFax printer (you do not need to enter a recipient)
2) Open the document in the fax client and export it to a .bmp file (menu File / Export / To File)
3) Go to the Cover Page Designer on the fax server and add that .bmp file to the overlay

To avoid that the fax title is displayed at the top of the exported bitmap, you can either disable that with the menu Extras / Options / Fax Title before you export the document to a .bmp file or you can modify the .bmp file with a graphics program.

To set the cover page as the default cover page, go to the menu Extras / Predefined Settings or Extras / User Administrator / Modify / Predefined Settings.

Incoming faxes

December 19, 2007

Q:
IS THERE A WAY THAT U CAN MAKE EVERY FAX THAT COMES OVER IN THE COMPUTER U CAN MAKE IT A SINGLE DOCUMNET AND NOT GROUP THEM?

A:
Each received fax is processed as a separate document. If you receive a fax with more than one page, all pages of the fax are however treated as a single document. It would be possible to manually split such faxes, so you have a separate fax list entry for each fax page. As an alternative it would also be possible to automatically export faxes in Tiff, GIF or BMP format. You get a single file for each fax page in that case.

ActiveFax Overlay

December 18, 2007

Q:
I’m testing your software just to buy it for my company. I’ve been designing the overlays with my company logo and data.
The problem is that when I print something from the ActiveFax printer. The information of the document appears in front of my overlay. How can I solve this?. Thanks.

A:
An overlay is a kind of a form the fax is printed on, so you need to care to only print text at positions where you do not display your company logo or other data from the overlay.

Data fields @F603 and @F604

December 6, 2007

Q:
I have a letter I wish to email to several clients using ActiveFax. I need to add a cover note and I’m using one @F603 field and four @F604 fields because the text is long. My problem is that the @F604 (continuation) fields do not appear on the final email in the same  order as I placed them in the report. (I’m using Crystal Reports) Do  you have any suggestion about how I tell ActiveFax the order to in  which to place the fields?

A:
The data fields are processed in the order they are printed by the application.  I would recommend to add the data fields from top to bottom in that case. If you format the data fields with a very small font size (i.e. 1 pt), it should also work to just use one or two data fields to set the email body text instead of using 5 data fields.
