Q:
I have been using ActiveFax for a long time now, and it gives me great joy every day. But it is a bit of a job of keaping the clients up to date. Is it possible to create an MSI installation package of the ActiveFax Client?
A:
An MSI setup is currently not available, but it would be possible to run the setup with command line parameters to automatically install the fax client:
To automatically run the ActiveFax Setup unattended it would be possible to start the setup program with command line parameters. A list of all available command line parameters can be displayed with the command actfax_setup_en.exe -help. For example to automatically install the fax client without automatic startup, use the following command:
* actfax_setup_en.exe -Auto -Client -NoStartup
To automatically install the fax server, use a command like the following:
* actfax_setup_en.exe -Auto -Server -Key 00000-00000
If you are using an ActiveFax version older than version 4.10, you first have to open the setup file actfax_setup_en.exe with Winzip and extract the setup files to a new directory (the file actfax_setup_en.exe can be treated like a normal ZIP file). To run the setup with command line parameters, start setup.exe from the extracted directory instead of actfax_setup_en.exe then.
