Fax forwarding

Q:
At this moment my incoming fax is being forwarded to an e-mail address. Is it possible to fill the subject field of the e-mail with the customers name or fax number?

A:
If you configured email forwarding with the menu Extras / User Administrator / Modify / Notification, the customers fax number and name (if available) should already be used for the subject. Using the parameter MailNotifySubjectRecv in the options.cfg file on the fax server it would also be possible to configure an individual subject text for faxes forwarded by email.

phone book / opening automatically

Q:
Is it possible that I could automatically pull up a phone book or the main phone book soon as I select print to the active fax printer.

A:
The phone book cannot be automatically opened when the fax dialog window is displayed, so you always need to use the “Phone Book” button to open the phone book in that case.

ActiveFax Font

Q:
Is there any chance to make the font available all the time. I have an application that loses the Active Fax font choice if the Active Fax printer is not the default printer. Then when I send the “@” variable they do not work. Then if I make the active fax the default printer it is not locked when I print a document to a laser printer.

A:
I’m sorry, but this is not possible for technical reasons, since the ActiveFax font is a printer internal font that is only available in combination with the ActiveFax printer.

Problem with Email

Q:
I have a problem regarding ActiveFax server email forwarding. It is showing error messages in delivery. That means delivery failure report.. and also when I click on email it is showing authentication error.

A:
It is important to configure the address of the mail server and authentication in the menu Communication / E-Mail on the fax server in that case. For authentication settings, take care to only enable the option for POP before SMTP authentication if this is required by your mail server (normally it isn’t).

When you configured the mail server, you also need to take care to configure automatic email forwarding for incoming faxes. This can be configured with the menu Extras / User Administrator / Modify / Notification. By default, incoming faxes belong to the Administrator user. To test the email service, I would also recommend to send a normal fax message by email (just enter an email address instead of a fax number for the message).

Modem – general error 5

Q:
I got the in the “Communication Error” in the Modem Error that says “General error 5”, and the error description “The serial interface cannot be opened. Maybe the interface is already in use by another application”, and Solution says “Try to find out which application is using the interface and terminate it”.

There is no application using the interface, so the only method to solve the problem is to shut down and restart Windows (XP, SP2). How can I solve the problem without restart my machine?

A:
If you can only solve this by rebooting Windows (starting and stopping the fax server does not work), this looks like a driver problem of the modem. I would recommend to make sure that the latest drivers for the modem are installed in that case.

What you can also do is to change the init sequence of the modem to AT&C1&D2 in the menu Communication / Modem / Modify (remove &F from the init sequence) and to disable the option to automatically reset the modem to data mode in the menu Communication / Modem / Modify / Extended.

Emailing with word, excel and active fax

Q:
I try to send a newsletter with activefax and word/excel, by email

but the problem is that word get back the email on excel file and with that on word :
@F212 “email”@
It’s not send, the file is put to active fax but I’ve “email” instead of email of my customer
can you help me please

A:
You need to take care to add the email address as a merge field to the Word document. Such merge fields are normally displayed as «email» in WinWord.
