Problem with the phone book

December 1, 2007

Q:
We have a remote desktop server in our building that our people log into from home. When trying to utilize the ActiveFax print driver, the phone book entry does not launch for them, instead, it launches on the console. What can we do to get around this? They will not use anything other than remote desktop, so using another software such as PCAnywhere is not an option.

A:
You need to take care to enable the option for terminal server extensions on the fax client with the menu File / Automatic Startup / Terminal Server when
connecting through a remote desktop. Take care to once log off from Windows after you changed that option. If this option is not enabled, the fax dialog
window is always displayed on the console screen, since the printer spooler is running on the console desktop.

Importing the phone book from an ODBC data source

December 1, 2007

Please note that the import of the phone book from an ODBC data source is always done for the Central Phone Book.

To configure the automatic import of phone book entries from an ODBC data source, follow these steps:

Change to the Phone Book tab.

Set the time interval to be used for the automatic update of the phone book data.

Select the Table that contains the phone book entries from the list of available database tables.

A default table can be created with the Use Default Table button. The default table is created with all fields available in the phone book.

Configure the field mapping to set the relationship between database columns and phone book fields. Fields not included in the database table are automatically imported with default or empty values. If you use the default table to import the phone book entries, the field mapping is automatically configured by ActiveFax.

Complete the configuration with OK.

Please note that conversion of different data types is automatically done by the fax server whenever possible.

An alternative way to import phone book entries is to import the phone book data from an external ASCII file (text file). More information about that can be found in the chapter Phone Book of the user manual.
