Default Modem

Q:
I install 4 modems on the Active Fax server. I configure each modem for: “Default user for incoming faxes”.
I need to set a default modem for outgoing fax to each user . For example: “user1” send outgoing fax by default from COM04….. “user2” send outgoing fax by default from COM05. Can I set permission to each modem: who can access \ use specific modem?

A:
This would be possible when you set the parameter UserSetController in the options.cfg file on the fax server. You can find more information about that parameter and the options.cfg file in the online help of the fax server.

2 Modems

Q:
I am currently running ActiveFax Server 4.14. I am using two modems for communications. Is there a way I can seperate the incoming faxes into different queues automatically based on the fax number the customer calls?

A:
It would be possible to specify a different default user for each modem with the menu Communication / Modem / Modify. By default, incoming faxes are automatically routed to the Administrator user.

Multiple Lines/Modems

Q:
i am having problems receiving faxes we are keeping the fax system busy with faxes going out and coming in. is there anyway we can have more than one line on this fax software. if so how?

A:
Running the fax server with more than one modem would be no problem. You just need to connect an additional modem to the fax server in that case and then add the modem with the menu Communication / Modem / New.

ActiveFax: recommended modems & boards

ActiveFax can be used with the following types of modems, ISDN boards and fax boards:

Fax modems that support fax class 1, 2 or 2.0
ISDN boards that support the T.30 (Fax Group 3) protocol

Avoid low-cost modems
In general, we recommend to avoid using low-cost modems for faxing, since such modems are usually only tested for data and Internet connections and do not work very reliable in fax mode. Since a modem has do establish connections to hundrets of different fax machines, using low-cost modems often causes problems when connections to certain types of fax machines cannot be done.
