How many licenses do I need

Q:
I am interested in using your faxing software, but I would like to clear up a couple of queries first if thats ok. Ideally we have 2 PCs which i will be turning into Fax PCs to receive incoming faxes – these are located in our server room. We would not be using the client versions – only the server, which will send incoming faxes direct to print/email notify via outlook

Now for my questions…
Because I have 2 machines which I will be maintaining (me being the single user) Do i need to have a separate license for each machine? Also, is it possible to use more than one modem in a single machine
which will output to different printers/emails? Many thanks in advance. I eagerly await a reply.

You will be ok with a 1 user license. You can use ActiveFax with as many modems as you want.

Missing 2 lines

F:
We moved from server version 3.85 to 4.16. Client version is still 3.94. We have problem with some partners that there is missing 2 lines from fax. We can see fax with correct outfit in active fax client and we can
send it succesful to our physical fax devices. But few partners are always missing same two lines from preconfigured letter. Viewing with hex editor those printer text files doesn’t have any extra characters.

A:
When you preview the fax on the screen, are the 2 lines displayed ok? If the preview on the screen is ok, this is normally caused by a modem related problem.

I recommend using the modem settings as follows:

* Menu Communication / Modem / Modify
o Modem Type: Generic Class 1 Modem
o Modem Class: 1
* Menu Communication / Modem / Modify / Port Settings
o Baud Rate (bps): 57.600
o Data Bits: 8
o Parity: None
o Stop Bits: 1
o Flow Control: Hardware
* Menu Communication / Modem / Modify / Extended
o MR-Compression (Modified Read): enabled
o Error Correction Mode (ECM): enabled
o Transfer Rates faster than 9.600 bps: enabled

You also need to take care that the options ‘Enable incoming calls (Receive)’ and ‘Answer incoming calls after x rings’ are enabled in the menu Communication / Modem / Modify. If the calls are still not answered, you should also enable the option ‘Answer calls for all MSN’ in the menu Communication / Modem / Modify / Port Settings. This option should however only be enabled, when there are no other devices connected to the same ISDN line.

If it does not work with these settings, I would recommend to make sure that the phone line is ok or trying a modem of a different brand. Limiting the baud rate to 9,600 bps in the menu Communication / Modem
/ Modify / Extended could also help.

ActiveFax Licenses

Q:
Would like to know if the license will be for life or is it a yearly license that has to be renewed. In another word does the customer have to renew the license every year or they will just have it for life?

A:
ActiveFax only has life-time licenses (no recurring fees), all updates are free, upgrades (e.g. from 5 to 10 users are possible … the customer simply pays the difference between the two license prices + 10 %).

Updating an existing ActiveFax installation to a new version

To update an existing ActiveFax installation to a new version, you have to download the latest ActiveFax release from the Download Area and run the Setup then.

All settings and data remain unchanged when you install the new ActiveFax release. Do not uninstall the old ActiveFax version, since you would lose your existing settings and data in that case.

It is recommend to always update the software for the fax server and also for the single fax clients.

In general, software updates for ActiveFax are available for free download through the Download Area on our website.
