Fax from file system…

Q:
Ok, I have an HP3055 AIO. I’ve set the scanner to save scans as uncompressed tiff and deposit files to directory Activefax looks in for files. After Activefax “sees” the new scan, it converts and then promptly does nothing. It does change the file extension (from tif to FAX) as set up, but the scan is nowhere to be found in Activefax. If I export an existing fax from Activefax to tif and place in the directory, Activefax will display the file in the “No Recipient” folder (presumably as it is designed to do). Is “tif” the proper format, or do I need to pass scans through Ghostscript to convert to “dat” file? Also, what format is “dat” file?
Thanks

A:
You need to take care that the Tiff file is in G3 or G4 format. Other Tiff formats (i.e. LZW compression) are ot supported. Ghostscript is not required to import Tiff files. Ghostscript would only be required when you need to directly import PDF or Postscript files.

Instead of placing the scanned documents in a directory that is automatically imported by the fax server, it would also be possible to print the scanned images to the ActiveFax printer. Normally this is the easier way to process scanned images, since you automatically get the fax dialog window asking for the recipients fax number right after the print job to the ActiveFax printer
