Q:
When I click on the icon to bring up the window for configuration or to monitor it, I get a window that says:
The Fax Server is currently running as a service. Due to windows security restrictions, it is only allowed to communicate with the fax server in application mode .Do you want to switch the fax server from service mode to application mode now?
A:
This message is normal when running the fax server on a Windows 7, 2008 or Vista system. This is because of a security restriction in Windows that does not allow the service to directly interact with the desktop, so the fax server needs to switch to application mode when you open the user interface of the fax server.
Kind regards
Yvonne

Q:
When creating a new fax document from within the activefax client everything is working fine but when trying to use the virtual printer driver the sending mask pops up but you can’t enter anything in it. The mouse cursor is stuck with the hourglass when it’s over the mask. If you kill the task (and that’s the only thing that you can do from there) it also crashes the print queue service of windows.
A:
I recommend to enable the option for terminal server extension in the menu File / Automatic Startup / Terminal Server on the fax client, since the fax dialog window is not displayed directly by the
printer driver in that case. Take care to once log off from Windows when you change that option.

Q:
Is there a way for the user who is the ActiveFax server to log off her computer and the ActiveFax server still be available to ActiveFax clients? Is there any way for the ActiveFax server to run without the user being logged into the computer?
A:
This would be possible when the fax server is running as a service. By default, the fax server should already be started as a service (you can check this with the menu File / Automatic Startup or with the Windows
Service Manager). When the fax server is running as a service, it would be no problem to log off from Windows and the fax server also automatically starts when Windows is rebooted.

Q:
Is a way to set up ActiveFax, so when a user, who is member of a group named as “NN”, receives a Fax, another user of the same group can check if the fax has been read by the other user?. We have now installed the 4.14 Version on the Server side and 4.10 on the Client side.
A:
By default, when a user reads a fax, the status is set to read for all users. It would also be possible to individually store the read/unread status for each user. This can be activated with the menu Extras /
Options / General / Extended Options / General on the fax server. What you do not see is which users already read a fax and which did not.

Q:
Hi, I’ve installed activefax to one on my customers; he has a us robotics Professional Message Modem wich has the features to receive fax-messages when the pc is powered off; the modem works fine when the pc and activefax are running; when the pc is powered off, the modem correctly receive and store the fax-messages in itself, but then when i switch on the pc with activefax server i’m not able to deploy the fax messages from the modem storage to activefax; is there a way to fix it?
A:
I’m sorry, but receiving faxes with the fax server PC turned off is not supported by ActiveFax, so you always need to have the fax server PC running to receive faxes with ActiveFax.

Q:
Does there exist a possibility to make a list of ‘blacklisted’ fax numbers ? A list to where the faxserver never will send faxes, even if a client asks it.
A:
It would be possible to automatically block faxes to certain fax numbers with the menu Communication / Modem / Dialing Properties / Options / Dialing Rules when you add a dialing rule for each number that should be blocked and the option “Sending clearance is required for this number” is enabled. Faxes to such numbers are automatically locked in the faxlist then. The users should also have the permission “Grant sending clearance to other users” revoked in the menu Extras / User Administrator / Modify.

Q:
We are using ActiveFax and are attempting to send out multiple faxes using a distribution list which is in an Exchange 2007/Outlook 2007 address book. When they attempt to select the distribution list it does not appear as an option. All individual fax entries are visible but not the distribution lists. Is there a known issue or is there a workaround to be able to see and select a distribution list from Exchange/Outlook 2007 address book?
A:
Since Outlook distribution lists are not available through the Windows MAPI interface, it is not possible to display such distribution lists in ActiveFax (only individual address book entries can be displayed).

Q:
Hello ActiveFax, we have the ActiveFax server software version 4.14. (50 users). At the moment many users/clients have their own fax number. Can we configure the users/clients with their own individual accounts but send from and receive faxes in their individual accounts, with only one fax number for all of them ?
A:
If you want to send faxes directly to a user with just a single fax number, you need to use extension numbers (DDI). This only works when extension numbers are also supported by your phone line, by your phone system and by the modem or fax board. If possible, I would recommend to use ISDN in that case, since extension numbers are normally supported by most ISDN phone systems.
The extension number can be configured with the field “Direct dialing (MSN)” in the menu Extras / User Administrator / Modify. In the menu Extras / Transmission Protocol you can also check which DDI number was submitted for an incoming fax.

Q:
I am using this software in CANADA on a DELL laptop with a standard V.92 modem connected to a standard phone line. Whenever i try to send a fax it will only dial 7 digits and i need to use 10 digit dialling.
I have tried to use the help but can not seem to get into the right section on the program.
A:
You should make the changes at the server, not the client.
